Reach Your Dreams
Have you set yourself a weight loss challenge for 2015? Whether it is through diet, exercise or a combination of both, many of us start the year with the positive intention of shaving a few digits off the bathroom scale reading. So what is your goal? And more importantly, are you on track to achieve it?
Setting a personal weight loss challenge is a great idea and shows the kind of desire, attitude and willingness that is required to be a true weight loss champion. However, you should not aim too high. By setting an achievable goal, you will not put too much pressure on yourself and you will have a much better chance of hitting your target.
There’s nothing better than the euphoric feeling you get when you achieve your weight loss goal and that’s exactly what you want, so set your sights on a target than you really feel you can reach. If you smash past it, than great, you will feel even better but don’t set yourself up for a fall by raising the bar too high.
If you have set a weight loss challenge for 2015, make sure that you can incorporate the steps required to make it happen into your current lifestyle or daily schedule. If not, then don’t be scared to make a few revisions. Do you really have time to hit the gym every day? Or would it be more realistic to go once or twice a week? Can you start cooking healthy Mediterranean food every night? Or could you make an extra effort at the weekends?
Dream, but be realistic
Deciding on an ideal weight may seem easy but don’t just pluck a figure from the air, give it some serious thought. Successful weight loss is about taking positive steps and feeling good about your progress. So ask yourself: “what CAN I realistically achieve this year?” rather than “what would I like to achieve this year.” Whatever you decide, make sure it is doable within the context of your life.
The great advantage with a realistic weight loss program is that you are more likely to stay on track as you monitor your progress throughout the year. If you can see that you are heading in the right direction, you can give yourself a pat on the back and carry on, and if you achieve your final goal, you will be more motivated to move on to the next one, and so on. However, if you have strayed too far from the trajectory of an over-ambitious goal, you might just feel like giving up early – and that’s the last thing we want.
Baby Steps to Success
Making small but successful steps in a positive direction will enable you to keep focused on your body, diet and health for the long term. Think about where you would like to be and then make a plan of the dietary journey that you need to take to get there – without any short-cuts! By taking a little time now to review your goals for 2015, you will give yourself every chance of being a weight loss winner.
