Let us take a “natural” hormone that a females body produces while pregnant, and lose a lot of weight… Sounds odd and almost too good to be true? Well that is the claims that turned hCG Diet into all the rage. Also, throw in an ultra-low-calorie diet and you will be able to “reset your metabolism” and they claim that you can lose up to a pound a day. Without every feeling weak or hungry!
But what does science say? Any super-low-calorie diet will result in weight loss, and that they have not found any connection with hCG being part of the reason for weight loss. The diet limits you to 500 calories a day, and is NOT approved by the FDA for weight loss. The only way to get the shot is to get it done by a health care provider.
What You Can Eat and What You Can’t Eat
Well, for starters you will not be eating much at all. This “diet” allows you to eat only TWO meals per day, that is lunch and dinner. These meals must include one vegetable, one bread, one fruit, and one protein.
Things you can broil or grill
- chicken breast
- fresh white fish
- or shimp
But ONLY if you do not eat any visible fat. Your vegetable choices are
- beet greens
- green salad
- red radishes
Bread can consist of either one bread stick or one Melba toast.
Your fruit choices can be:
- handful of strawberries
- half a grapefruit
You can drink an unlimited amount of water, coffee, or tea.
Level of Difficulty
Now after reading the list of what you can and cannot have you can probably already assume what our answer will be. But this diet is extremely hard, and can even be dangerous as surviving with this little nutrition can be very unhealthy. Anything under 1200 calories a day will be a challenge in it’s own to get enough vitamins and minerals without supplements.
So does this seem like a very good diet plan? We at 101HealthAdvice feel that anything this drastic could be a bad idea and with the dangers involved we would strongly recommend against this. Now there is no saying that it will not work for a few, but we feel that something that could harm your body in the short and long term is probably something you should avoid doing. There are more than enough diet plans out there for you to have to do something this drastic.
